TFI Local Link Kerry is delighted to be in partnership with Kerry Social Farming.

Kerry Social Farming (www.kerrysocialfarming.ie) supports people with disabilities (participants) from across Kerry so they can avail of social farming opportunities on farms in their local community on a long term basis. Each host farmer offers their time on a voluntary basis, typically for 3-6 hours once a week supporting 1-2 participants on the farm. The host farms remain working farms and through the voluntary effort of farmers and their families, participants are supported to participate in the farming activities and get to know people in their wider community. Farmers are fully supported in terms of operational supports, health and safety, training, and farm upgrades required, as well as any additional insurance cost.

TFI Local Link Kerry work with Kerry Social Farming to ensure safe and reliable transport for participants to attend their social farming days.

Volunteers & host farmers can register to be a Social Car driver with Local Link Kerry.

Registration covers the Driver (Drivers licence & Garda Vetting) and the proposed vehicle. (NCT & Insurance & Indemnification). All volunteers undergo Garda vetting with Local Link Kerry.

Volunteer drivers received a reimbursement mileage allowance of 40 cent a mile or 25 cent a km.

These arrangements ensure that social farming participation is spread across Kerry and is not just confined to areas close to major towns or pre-existing transport routes.  It brings about genuine social inclusion and outreach to rural communities.

There is lots of information on the project on the Kerry Social Farming website and you can find out the latest news on social farming activities on Twitter and on Facebook.
